Latina Magic✨comes in various shades, shapes, and sizes. For the Latinx Heritage Month (also known as National Hispanic Heritage Month) I created these designs. From September 15 - October 15 we observe this celebration, a period that recognizes the historical contributions & influences of Latinx Americans, the United States learns and connects with la gente (the people). During this significant month, it's essential to uplift and amplify Latinx voices, celebrating our resilience and cultural richness. Through art, storytelling, and community events, we honor our shared heritage and pave the way for a more inclusive future. This illustration serves as a visual tribute to the strength and diversity within the Latinx community, reminding us of our collective journey and the beauty of our ancestral features.
Representing the color spectrum, the different body type aesthetics, and diversity was important for this project. The Latinx community is filled with love, but the human experience has negative aspects in it as well, from misrepresentations to colorism. Spotlighting African and Native American features was paramount, contrary to media portrayal, many Latinx Americans are born with these characteristics.
I choose warm & vivid colors to reflect and accentuate Latinx culture. Latinx American countries usually have warm climates, manifesting in an array of colors, bringing that heat! The background pattern also symbolizes the warmth from the tropical sunlight.
